Air fryer steak is a delicious and easy way to cook steak. The steak comes out tender and juicy with a crispy exterior. Simply season the steak with your favorite spices or marinade, place it in the air fryer basket, and cook at 400°F for 8-12 minutes depending on the thickness and desired doneness. Let it rest for a few minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!

Why You Will Love This Recipe
Air fryer steak is surprisingly easy to make. I used to be intimidated by cooking different types of protein like steak on a grill but once I tried cooking a steak in the air fryer my mind changed.
Air fryer steak is almost as good as a steak that was grilled to perfection by a chef at a restaurant!
You can have a fancy steak house dinner ready in under 20 minutes with the help of your air fryer.
Ingredients Needed
- Steaks (New York Strip, Rib Eye, or Tri Tip), 4 to 6 oz each - 1 inch steaks work the best to make sure for even cooking
- Kosher Salt and Pepper to taste
- Butter (optional) - you can make your own seasoned butter
- See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
Seasonings and Sauces to Try
Salt and pepper are always a good option. Some seasonings I like are Dano's Lemon Pepper Seasoning. You can also use any type of fresh herbs.
Spices or herbs to try on steak: rosemary, paprika, thyme, or black pepper
Make a garlic butter sauce with butter, olive oil, and garlic to put on the steak for some more flavor. See my recipe for Baked Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter for the butter recipe.
I like to dip my steak in Hibachi Yum Yum Sauce or sometimes even Homemade Ranch Dressing.
How to Cook Steak in an Air Fryer
Step 1: If your air fryer requires preheating, preheat your air fryer.
Step 2: Let the temperature to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 3: Season your steak with salt and pepper on each side.
Step 4: Place the steak in your air fryer basket. Do not overlap the steaks.
Step 5: Set the time for 8 to 12 minutes and flip the steak at 6. I like to check at 8 minutes to see where I'm at. Use a meat thermometer to check the temperature.
Best Cuts of Steak for Air Fryer
There are a lot of different types of steak out there and I have tested this recipe using New York Strip and Rib Eye. This recipe will work for any steak that is 1 inch thick.
Once you master cooking a certain type of steak in the air fryer you will want to try other cuts of steak. Filet mignon, skirt steak, sirloin steak, or ribeye would be great to make in the air fryer!
What can I serve with steak?
Crock Pot Mac and Cheese and Air Fryer Twice Baked Potatoes are commonly served with Steak at really nice steak house restaurants.
For a vegetable to serve on the side make Air Fryer Brussel Sprouts with Baco, Bacon Wrapped Green Beans, or Smoked Asparagus.
Recipe FAQs
I have not tested this recipe using a frozen steak. It is best to let meat come to room temperature before cooking it. If your steak is frozen let it defrost in the fridge overnight.
You do not need to sear a steak in a pan before putting it in the air fryer. I never have. The air fryer will make the outer skin of the steak golden brown and crispy on both sides.
If your air fryer doesn't go to 400 degrees for the temperature setting, check your user manual that came with it. Usually, it will say what temperature to cook steak at.

I do not have a Samsung air fryer oven. You might have to adjust the cooking time.
